DTE

In our DTE class, we were tasked to make something out of the things we've learned throughout the year. We were to use our knowledge in robotics and coding to make our project. We could do it on our own or with other people, so Andrei, Noel, worked on a pick-a-path story using Python code. Andrei wrote the story, while Noel did the coding and I beta-tested the game.

For our pick-a-path, we used Coggle as our planning board. Andrei used the branching arrows to write how the stories would progress. For my brilliant idea, we decided to give the operator four choices to pick which story that they would want:
- A horror-themed story
- A story about the Medieval times
- A story during the future
- A story set in the present
(The horror story was written first, the story for the Present branch was the last to be finished.)

ENG work

What is happening in this clip

The Reaping Scene:

- Katniss volunteers as tribute when her sister is chosen.

- The children/parents of the district give her the 3 finger salute.

- Peeta is chosen as the male tribute.

What themes does it link to:

Hope and Rebellion - 3 finger salute - it is a sign of respect for Katness from her district.

- Katniss is a symbol of hope for a district victor.

- Katniss is a symbol of rebellion because she steps in for her sister (a weaker character) when she is reaped.

Rich vs Poor - symbol - Effie Trinket - extreme make-up, wig, hat, overly colourful and flashy outfit, proper accent.

- Technology use of blood readers/scanners, projectors.

Poverty - District 12 - Children outfits for reaper are their best clothes, dresses, shirts - collared, boys - shorts or pants, colours of clothes are very faded from washes and reusing.

- The village is falling down and crumbling around them.

Angles/shots used:

Close-Ups- faces - Primrose when is reaped - terror, fear.

 - Effie - Joyful, confident, excited - close of lips when reading names.

 - Peeta - fear, panic, shock.

 - Katniss - Panic when Prim is reaped, shock when she stands with Effie.

Shallow Focus - The people in the background are in shallow focus when Prim and Katness hug. This forces the viewer to watch the character in focus.

How does the viewer feel?

The viewer feels - Sorry for the tributes - Primrose - it was her first time

- Katniss - she volunteered - selfless act.

- Anger towards the Capitol for the reaping.

- We consider Effie is annoying, happy, stuck-up, clueless.

Why did the director do this?

Director Purpose - Need to be invested in their journey/suffering.

- need to be angry at Capitol so that we judge them and their decisions later.

- Effie is depicted as a symbol of the people in the District, they are clueless - don't see the suffering.

Rich vs Poor

Rich vs Poor - Some people have more money - Capitol

- Money                                - Privileges / Respect

- Food - variety                     - Resources

- Proper housing                   - Technology

- Medicines                           - Clothing / Makeup

- Transport                            - Childhoods

Hope + Rebellion - Hope is the belief that something will get better.

Rebellion - To fight against something, protest, uprise, usually against the government.

Symbols of Hope - Katness, Melodic, Mocking, Jay, 3 finger salute.

Struggle for Power - Currently, the Capitol has power - President Snow.

- Katness becomes a rival for power - people look up to her for guidance, becomes a threat because Snow sees her as one.

'Hope, it is the thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective, a lot of hope is dangerous.

Fear - The people are afraid of rebelling because the last time they tried they failed and they were punished with the Hunger Games.

Little Hope - Becoming a victor

Dangerous Hope -  That the districts deserve to be treated better.

Power of Propaganda - Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, is used to promote a political cause or POV.

Messages being told - H's not worth rebelling.

                                  - The Capitol is the strongest.

                                  - Things are good the way they are.

PropagandaReality
PeaceKeeper - People to keep peace and to help you- Soldiers, violent, keep people in line. Look storm troopers.
Victor - Glorious, someone who wins, wealthy, respected- Violent, to win 23 others had to die, trauma.
Fallen - people who died in the games,
takes away from the mentality of the situation
teenagers who have been killed or Murdered, volent
tribute - two brave young people,
it's an honour
sacrifice, punishment to the districts

I made a Horror Story

When my sister Sini and I were kids, our family lived for a while in a charming old farmhouse. We loved exploring its dusty corners and climbing the apple tree in the backyard. But our favourite thing was the ghost. We called her Mother because she seemed so kind and nurturing. Some mornings Sini and I would wake up, and on each of our nightstands, we'd find a cup that hadn't been there the night before. Mother had left them there, worried that we'd get thirsty during the night. She just wanted to take care of us. Among the house's original furnishings was an antique wooden chair, which we kept against the back wall of the living room. Whenever we were preoccupied, watching TV or playing a game, Mother would inch that chair forward, across the room, toward us. Sometimes she'd manage to move it all the way to the centre of the room. We always felt sad putting it back against the wall. Mother just wanted to be near us. Years later, long after we'd moved out, I found an old newspaper article about the farmhouse's original occupant, a widow. She'd murdered her two children by giving them each a cup of poisoned milk before bed. Then she'd hanged herself. The article included a photo of the farmhouse's living room, with a woman's body hanging from a beam. Beneath her, knocked over, was that old wooden chair placed exactly in the centre of the room.

The starfish poem has a deeper meaning as it means the even if your impact is small it is still important as it says in this text "there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along with it You can't possibly make a difference!" The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves, and said- It made a difference for that one. This evidence that Your effet does matter and can influence others to help out. if we all had the mindset as the Wiseman nothing would ever get done and we would let the situation get too bad to turn around and eventually will lead to death to that species.
